Evelyn I. Maloney, 87, died on February 2, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. For the past 8 years Evelyn has lived with the challenges of Alzheimers. Evelyn was born on May 15, 1922 in New York City, NY, the daughter of Tim and Hazel OBrien Hurley. She lived much of her life in Peoria, IL. She graduated from the Academy of Our Lady High School in 1940 and married Bernard Maloney on January 24, 1942. They moved to Rockford in 1959. She was a member of St. Rita Church for many years and worked in Medical Records at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, retiring in 1983. A love of family and a love of writing were manifested in the countless poems she wrote and left for her family.
Left behind to celebrate her life are her children, Maureen Dewey, Kathleen (Louis) McKeever, Michael (Jean) Maloney, Patrick, Mary (Dan) Suzuki; supportive friend and caregiver, William Wentink; 13 grandchildren; Scott (Kathy) Dewey, Kim (Ron) Foss, Lisa (Jeff) Boelkes, Luke (Jaimie) Dewey, Liam McKeever, Danny McKeever, Kate Maloney, Michael Maloney, Danny Maloney, Jimmy Maloney, Elizabeth (Drew) Evans, David Suzuki and Matthew Suzuki. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Cory (Stephany) Dewey, Summer Dewey, Jerry Foss, Julie Foss, Michelle Foss, Dawn Foss, Colton Boelkes, Cali Boelkes, Payton Dewey, Ava Dewey, Jack Dewey and Noah Dewey. Predeceased by her husband, Bernard on May 1, 1996.
