Griffey, 83, Rockford, died at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 in his home.Born March 17, 1928 in Barron, WI, son of Blanche M. Kurschner Griffey and Merle E. Griffey. Married Leona J. Dill in Dubuque, IA on December 20, 1949.Served as a medic in the United States Army.Retired as supervisor of the Greater Rockford Airport after 35 years of employment.Eugene loved automobiles; the restoration of them and the racing of them.He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Lake Waubesa.He was an amazing, loving family man.Survivors include his wife, Leona; sons, Micheal E. (Diane L.) Griffey and Steven V. (Diane K.) Griffey; daughter, Nancy J. (Alan) Garrison; grandchildren, Jennifer H. Griffey, Sheri M. Griffey and Chelsea E. Fyke; brother, Jimmy (Jeanne) Griffey; sisters, Joan (Howard) Jacobson and Janice (Roger) Kindstrom; numerous nieces and nephews.Predeceased by his brother, Joel and sister, Jacquelyn.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd..Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
