Eugene Truman Wieland, 84 Rockford Eugene Truman Wieland, 84, a very generous, loving and caring husband and father passed away peacefully on Sunday, September, 13, 2009, after a long illness, which he handled with grace, dignity and courage. He joins in heaven, the love of his life, Mary Catherine Rafferty. Gene and Mary were blessed to spend 50 beautiful years of marriage together before Mary passed in 1999. Gene was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy. After graduating from Iowa State University, with a degree in Civil Engineering, his professional career spanned 40 years with the Winnebago County Highway Department. He was an active and devout member of Holy Family parish for 60 years, the same parish where he and his wife worshipped, raised their family and volunteered their time. He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Olson, his five children, Tom, John, Paul and Mike Wieland and Patti Roose, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Predeceased by two his sisters Donna and Alice. He was blessed with many good friends. He lived his life with grace, dignity and a deep faith that never faltered. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who were blessed to know him.Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church 4407 Highcrest, with Monsignor Thomas Bales officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory 1860 S. Mulford Road and from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Family Church, St. Elizabeth Center or a charity of your choice.
