Eugene "Pete" Ferguson 77 of Cherry Valley, IL and Sun City, AZ died peacefully in his home on April 9, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 7, 1936 in Pecatonica, IL to Lowell and Arlie (Klitz) Ferguson. He graduated from Pecatonica High School, class of 1954. He joined the US Navy after graduation and worked as a Radio Technician during the Korean War. A machinist by trade, he worked at various machine shops in Rockford, IL and retired in 2001 from Apex Boring Co. He loved to socialize and was a member of the American Legion Post 1207, Eagles Club, Lombardi Club and the Elks Club (Sun City, AZ). Considered the world's biggest Green Bay Packer fan by those who knew him best. He was also an avid golfer, fisherman and deer hunter (in his earlier years).
Survived by his wife, Betty. Children, Peter (Jennifer) Ferguson, Michael (Tricia) Ferguson, Tricia (Dustin) Null and Heather Nelson all of Rockford. Stepson, Jim Stading of Spearfish, SD. Grandchildren, Danielle and Kendall Ferguson, Erin and Emily Null, Summer Nelson and Teagan Ferguson. Step grandchildren, Kristi, Daniel and Brandon Groehling and Rebecca, Hannah and Sarah Stading. Brother, Dale Ferguson of Rock City, IL and Sister Darlene Peterson of Eau Claire, WI. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billy (Nancy) Ferguson and sister, Janet (Chuck) Bergquist.
Memorial service at 2pm Sunday April 13, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral home 1860 S. Mulford Road with Pastor Janet Wold, Pastor of Shepherd of the Valley Church officiating.
