Eugene Czerniak

June 23, 1924 — October 18, 2017

Eugene J. Czerniak, 93, died peacefully on October 18 at his home in Siena on Brendenwood in Rockford. Gene was born in Chicago in 1924 to Stanley and Frances Czerniak. He served in India with the U.S. Army during WWII and earned a degree in industrial engineering at IIT. He worked for Acme Steel for 42 years before retiring in 1989. In 1948, Gene married Alice Adamczyk, who died shortly before their 50th anniversary. Devoted to his Catholic faith, Gene was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Rita Catholic Church. Gene is survived by his four children--Mark, Mary Ellen (Jerald Bope), Carole Mounier (James), and Jeanine Kissinger—and by four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at St. Rita Catholic Church (6254 Valley Knoll Dr., Rockford), on Tuesday, Oct 24, 10-10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment services will be on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery (Justice, IL).
