Emma “Ruth” (Turner) Underwood passed away on January 16, 2021. She was born on April 25, 1930 in Clinton, KY, the only daughter of James “Jim” Walter and Luvera (Bailey) Turner. Ruth graduated from Central High School in Clinton, KY the class of 1949. Her first job was clerk at John B. Evans Grocery in Clinton. She went on to marry Fred Gadberry on December 24, 1950 in Spring Hill, KY until 1956. Ruth then worked at Chrysler Engineering in records in Highland Park, MI before being sidelined after an automobile accident with a drunk driver who passed away. She then married Glenn Underwood on March 19, 1959 in Elkton, MD. Her life work became her family, whom she loved and was very proud of.
She will be missed by those who loved her most, her kids Glenn A. (Merilee) Underwood, Brett (Kristin) Underwood, and Kari (Greg) Hall; her grandchildren Chris (Caroline Anderson) Underwood, Sara (Jeff) Zimmerman, Matthew (Brie) Underwood, Jaime (Marcus) Moton, Kylee (Zak O’Connor) Loveridge, Kelsee Loveridge, Jakob Underwood, Bailey (Oskar Zarzycki) Underwood, Eddie (Adam List) Olson, Allison (Jeffrey Boatwright) Olson, Sierra (Marcus Harding) Hall and Hunter Hall; great-grandchildren Emma Underwood, Lucca Moton, and baby Underwood on the way; her brother James W. Turner and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Glenn, her parents and sister in law, Carol Turner.
A private family service will take place for Ruth, followed by an internment at Arlington Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Northern Illinois Hospices, all their nurses, chaplain, massage therapist, social worker and a very special thank you to CNA Cynthia for all her care and kindness.
