Elton Harrison "Doc" Miller Obituary
Elton Harrison “Doc” Miller, of Rockford died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in his home. He was born in Ogle County, Illinois on August 24, 1927, the son of Elton Harrison and Anna (Abels) Miller. He graduated from Freeport High School, received both his B.S. and M.Ed Degrees from the University of Illinois and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Northern Illinois University. Elton married Mary Elizabeth Wyse, of Ishpeming, Michigan, in Urbana, Illinois, March 10, 1951. For several years, Elton taught business subjects at the high school and college level. Elton was employed for 31 years by the Sundstrand Corporation in the Aerospace Division, retiring as a Quality Administration Supervisor in 1989. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, YMCA, YMCA Retired Men’s Club, and Masonic Lodge 166. After retiring, he was actively involved as a United Way Campaign Ambassador, a Meals on Wheels driver-volunteer, and an active member of Christ Methodist Church and various community organizations.
Elton is survived by his daughter, Mary Lee A. Miller; sister-in-law Maxine Miller plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darrel and Owen; and sisters, Alethea (infant) and Lois Allen.
A memorial service in celebration of his life is scheduled for 11:30 am, February 24, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road, Rockford, Illinois.
