Elmer Adolph Nygren, 82, of Rockford, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2008 in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born July 8, 1925 in Rockford; the son of Adolph Nygren and Edna Nelson. He married Norma J. Schwebke on September 2, 1944 in Rockford. Elmer served in the Navy during Word War II, serving in the Philippines. He was self employed as a bricklayer working for many Rockford contractors. Elmer was a member of Bricklayers Local No. 31. He enjoyed fishing and flower gardening. His hobby of creating art from stone and mortar was his passion and his therapy. Survivors include his wife, Norma; children, Bruce (Marijo) Nygren, David A. (Lynn) Nygren and Susan (Steven) McIntosh; grandchildren, Todd McDonald, Stacey (Dean) Smetana, Jennifer (Jeremy) Sturges, Steven (Renee) Nygren, Sonya (Joe) Dreutel, Seth Nygren, Brent (Jasmin) McIntosh, Jody (Nathan) Mitchell, Spencer (Nicole) Breithaupt, Kristine McIntosh, Carly Smith and Chase Nygren; several great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Glen McDonald; sister, Elsie Wahl; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter, Patricia McDonald; son, Steven Nygren; sister, Lillian Erickson and brother, Harry Nygren, Sr.. Special thanks to the staff at Provena St. Anne Center for their kind and loving care. At Elmers request, no services will be held. Cremation rites were accorded.
