Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Thompson, 73, of Rockford, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born November 28, 1942 in Shullsburg, WI, the daughter of Bergen and Gertrude (Gile) Townsend. She married the love of her life, David Thompson on February 13, 1960 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Shullsburg. Betty was an excellent cook and always kept her home immaculate. She enjoyed watching the birds, especially cardinals. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and loving sister and friend. Betty was an avid Cubs, Packers, and Badgers fan, never missing an opportunity to watch a game with her best friend, Dave. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Dave; her children, Jim (Mary)Thompson of Rockford, IL, Ron (Cindy)Thompson of DeKalb, IL, Sandy (Doug) Smiley of Belvidere, and Tammy(Willie) Wierman of Dixon, IL; Her grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) Thompson, Ryne Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Nicole Smiley, Cal Thompson, and Ashley Wierman; her siblings, Ken (Bernadine) Townsend of Dubuque, IA, Jim (Carol) Townsend of Bellevue, IA, Dick (Donna) Townsend of Moline, IL, Tom (Nerrie) Townsend of Arlington Heights, IL, Harry (Carol) Townsend of Ferryville, WI, and Diane (Judd) Jones of Montgomery, IL; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Bergen and Gertrude Townsend.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Shullsburg, WI on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL. And will continue the following day at St. Matthews Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery.
