Betty A. Morsch, age 91, died peacefully at home in Rockford, IL on Friday, October 5, 2018. Elizabeth Ann Swanson was born in Aurora, Nebraska on September 23, 1927, the daughter of Archibald Carl and Mildred (Anderson) Swanson. She grew up on a farm in Hamilton County, Nebraska and attended School District 70 (Jacoby School) and Aurora High School. In 1942, she moved with her family to Hinckley, IL where she graduated from Hinckley High School. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA. She was united in marriage to Elmer John Morsch, Jr. on February 28, 1948. Betty and Johnnie were married 53 years before his death in 2001. She worked at Wurlitzer Co. in DeKalb and then on the Morsch homestead raising their family. Betty was best known for her deep faith in Jesus Christ. She attended First Evangelical Covenant Church, participated in many church organizations through the years, was a member of the Hinckley Women’s Club and volunteered in her community. Betty loved entertaining family and friends, especially at annual Swedish Christmas celebrations. Nebraska held a special place in her heart and she treasured her visits to her hometown.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Pam (Greg) Parsons of Rockford, IL and Debbie (Greg) Castle of Birmingham, MI; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Jack C. Morsch; granddaughter, Kelly Morsch; and her two brothers, Gerald Swanson and Merton Swanson.
The family would like to thank the devoted caregiver team led by Magda Buzaladze and Marta Snyder who loved and cared for Betty for the past eight years and lovingly supported the family.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 316 Wood Road, Rockford, IL; with Rev. Peter Dibley officiating. Visitation 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Visitation will continue from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the church Friday, October 12, 2018. Private burial in Oak Mound Cemetery, Somonauk, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Evangelical Covenant Church or charity of choice. Online condolences may be submitted at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
