Elisabeth V. Sauer (Schmit) Arbuckle, 93, Davenport, IA, died Friday, February 21, 2014 in the Kahl Home in Davenport. Born February 9, 1921 in Oregon, IL, daughter of August Charles and Minnie (Barber) Sauer. She attended nursing school at St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford and married James M. Schmit in July of 1941 in Rockford. She married Paul Arbuckle on January 23, 1970. Elisabeth was a resident of Davenport, IA since 1970, coming from Rockford, IL where she raised her family.

Survived by her children, Mary F. (Fran) (John) Morrissey, Rockford, Margaret A. Schmit, Phoenix, AZ, Michael J. (Sandy) Schmit, Belvidere, Mark L. Schmit, Memphis, TN; grandchildren, John J. (Maureen) Morrissey, Mary Beth (John) Clausen, Robert DeCori, Gregory DeCori, Patrick DeCori, Rachel Schmit, Aaron Schmit, Brian Schmit and seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary (John) Leary; father of her children, Jim Schmit; second husband Paul Arbuckle and infant grandson, Daniel J. Morrissey.

Elisabeth foremost loved her family. She was a devout Catholic and had great faith. She loved music, having excelled in playing the violin, organ and singing in church choirs. She at one time was part of the Sweet Adeline's in Rockford, IL.

Elisabeth was very active in Catholic and parish organizations, helping out in many areas from overseeing full parish functions to washing altar linens. She was past president of the Catholic Women's League in Rockford, IL.

Funeral Mass and burial will be held privately.The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
