Eileen C. Wetzel, 77, Rockford, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, in her home surrounded by lifelong friends. She endured many hardships including the early death of her parents, her husband, Rae Wetzel, her daughter, Kathy Swanson, and her son, Brad Swanson. She remained tough, independent and ready to take on life her way. She was intensely loyal to her friends who loved her honesty and unique sense of humor. She was born May 26, 1940, in Rockford, the daughter of Erick E. and Elnora C. (Grano) Landgren. Eileen was a graduate of Rockford East high school, class of 1958. She married Rae A. Wetzel in 1980, and he passed away in 1992. Eileen worked at PNC Bank (formerly City National Bank) for 26 years, retiring in 1997. After retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper at Guyer and Enichen law firm for a few years. Eileen enjoyed reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed playing the slots. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Boone Post 77 and the White Eagles Club.
Survived by her niece, Carla Landgren, her nephew, Erik Landgren, her aunt, Adora Kutchin, and her close friends from her working years including the “Moma Owls”. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Rae, her daughter, Kathy, her son, Brad, and her brothers, Edmund and Carl Landgren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. With Reverend Dean Parker officiating.
