EDWARD VANCE PLATT, MD, 95, of Rockford, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born May 5, 1912, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of George Hilyard and Blanche Elizabeth (Michael) Platt. Edward married Edythe Howe in Biloxi, MS on April 23, 1941. She passed away on November 16, 1995. He was a Capt. during WWII in the Army. Edward was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson Medical College, serving his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He moved to Rockford in 1947, joining the medical staff at St. Anthony Hospital. Edward established the RAA (Rockford Anesthesiology Association) in 1962. He retired in 1975 and moved to Naples, FL until 2002, when he moved back to Rockford to be with his family. Edward is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Richard) Ellingson; 2 grandsons, Scott (Heidi) Dudgeon and Matthew (Jenny) Dudgeon; 3 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Merritt and Brodie Dudgeon and a step-grandson, David Ellingson. Predeceased by his wife, parents, and a sister. Memorial service will be 11A.M., Monday, April 28, 2008, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 N. Horseman, Rockford with Pastors David J. Thies and Larry R. Yaw officiating. Visitation from 10A.M. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
