Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

Edwardnbsp;John Yomantas, 82, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Born October 15, 1929 in Rockford; son of Bruno and Martha (Kucinsky) Yomantas; and brother of Charles. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1947 and DeVry Technical Institute in 1954. Edward served in the Army as a PFC from 19511953 during the Korean War. He married Helen I. Stevens on October 21, 1950with whom he recently celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary.nbsp; Edward worked for J.L. Clark for 16 years; and later for Broadway Radio amp; TV, from which he retired in 1993. In 1995 Edward and Helen moved from Rockford to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where they enjoyed retirement for the past 16 years and he became an avid golfer.

With his family, Edward visited a majority of the countrys National Parks and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon twiceonce in 1985 and again in 1987. A Civil War buff, he most recently visited Gettysburg and Vicksburg National Military Parks.

He was a member of the Rockford Amateur Radio Association, Belvidere Amateur Radio Association (serving a term as the organizations President), Hot Springs Village Amateur Radio Association, VFW, Lt. Robert C.A. Carlson American Legion Post 1207, American Legion Post 123 in Hot Springs Village, Rockford Lithuanian Club, Knights of Columbus in Hot Springs Village, Hot Springs Village Mens 18Hole Golf Association (where he was the 2006 Handicapped Champion), Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, and the Sacred Heart Mens Club. Edward also volunteered in various capacities including delivering Meals on Wheels in Hot Springs Village.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; daughter, Cynthia L. (Steven Bauman) Yomantas; sons, Timothy E. (Christina) Yomantas and John A. Yomantas; grandchildren, Sam and Ben Bauman; Drew, Lauren, Tyler and Helena Yomantas. Edward is predeceased by his parents and brother, Charles.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00am Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. Rockford.

Visitation from 9:00am to time of service at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel. 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108 is assisting the family.
