Edmund G. Linkenheld, 83, of Rockford passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
Ed was born in Evergreen Park, IL on June 7, 1938, son of Edmund L. and Olivia (Blonigen) Linkenheld. He grew up on Chicago’s south side near 97th and Racine. He attended St. Margaret of Scotland Grammar School and Leo High School. Ed continued his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in January of 1963. He was a proud member of the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity. Ed married Karen Ann Peterson on October 16, 1965. He was a longtime member of St. Rita Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. Ed retired from Sundstrand Corporation in June of 1996 with 30 years of experience in project engineering and marketing. He also worked for New Hampshire Ball Bearings as a sales engineer and Chicago district manager. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, taking care of his yard, reading and guitar. Most of all, Ed cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Karen Linkenheld; sons, Jeffrey (Carol) and David (Jennifer) Linkenheld; grandchildren, Rev. James Linkenheld, Anne Marie (Nicholas) Schmitz, Thomas Linkenheld, Kayelene (Daniel) Card and Alexander Linkenheld (Jordan McFarland); great-grandchildren, Harrison and Lillian Card; brother, Robert Linkenheld. Ed is predeceased by his parents and sister, Janet Murphy.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass located at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford, IL 61109. Final resting place will be in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
