Edith Mccauley

Edith McCauley, 87, of Rockford passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Wesley Willows. Born April 26, 1928, in Freeport, the daughter of Floyd and Nellie (Lincoln) Corl. Edith earned her Master’s Degree from Rockford College and was a teacher with the Rockford Public School District for 35 years, teaching at Montague, Swan Hillman and Martin Luther King Schools. She wrote theater reviews for the Rock River Times and was a huge supporter of theater and arts, especially the Artists’ Ensemble. Edith loved to travel all around the United States as well as to Mexico and Europe. She enjoyed visiting the cabin at Little Spider Lake in the Northwoods. Edith loved her family and was a great advocate for whomever and whatever she loved.
Survived by her children, William (Ann) Gregory, Mary (Dave) Kilty and Kevin (Cheryl) McCauley; siblings, Ruth (Arthur) Deem, Helen Shierry, Carol (Phil) Blankenburg and Tom (Mary) Corl; grandchildren, Todd Gregory, Elizabeth (Christopher) Patterson and Lindsey (Ryan) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Henry and Charley Thompson and baby girl Patterson on the way; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Nellie and Floyd, partner for 30 years, Julian Swain, husband, Jim McCauley, former husband and father of William and Mary, Glenn Gregory, stepchildren, Eileen McCauley and Mike McCauley and infant brother, Charles.
Memorial gathering will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Artists Ensemble, PO Box 1684, Rockford, Illinois 61110-0184.
