Earl A. Smith

Earl A. Smith, 92, Rockford, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at OSF ST. Antony Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1931, in Boone County, the son of Floyd and Margaret (Jergens) Smith. He was a veteran serving in the Army. Earl married Frances L. Olson in Jefferson Prairie, WI on November 23, 1951. She passed away on June 27, 2020. He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone (now AT&T) for 37 years retiring at the age of 58.

Survived by his daughters, Diane (Tom) Child of Des Moines, IA and Karen (Tom) Etier of Rockford; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Xavi) Rodriguez, Alyssa (Joe) Kirchner, Lauren Etier, and Mark (fiancé, Jordan Allen) Child; his great grandchildren, Isla and Oliver Rodriguez; his sisters, Ruth McKiski and Verna (Harvey) Gahl; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter, Carla; and his brothers, Lyle and Merle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
