Dr. Philip Robert Schalow Dc Dccjp

November 11, 1955 — October 30, 2023

Dr. Philip Robert Schalow, DC, DCCJP, age 67, Rockford, Baptized child of God, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was born on November 11, 1955, in Story City, IA, the son of Fred and Sarah (Tjernagle) Schalow. He married Kathleen Rubin on June 19, 1993, in Champaign, IL. He was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed Christian fellowship with the members of the body of Christ in other churches in our area including Faith Center, Rock Church, and The Mission among others. He enjoyed monthly worship in his Focus 61:1 worship group.

Philip is survived by his wife Kathleen Schalow; his children Peter Karl Schalow of Rockford, Micah William Schalow of Austin, TX, Melia Schalow of Rockford; sisters-in-law, Cindy Rubin and Judy Rubin; siblings, John Martin (Bianca) Schalow, Paul Gordon (Kiri Lee) Schalow Louise Margaret (Rob) Del Vecchio; nieces and nephews, Eric, Emlyn, Robert Paul (Allison), and Kristina. He is preceded in death by his parents,Rev.Fred Schalow and Sarah Schalow Hassold; Step-father Rev. William Hassold; brother-in-law, Greg Rubin; nephew, Jonathan David Rubin.

Philip attended Valparaiso University for one year and transferred to Temple University where he earned his Masters in Violin Performance. He then played in various orchestras and music ensembles including Savannah Symphony. He spent time abroad studying the Alexander Technique. In 1991, he moved to Champaign, IL where he met his beloved wife-to-be, Kathy. They were married on June 19, 1993 at St. John Lutheran Church. The wedding was officiated by Rev. Donald Ehlers and Rev. William Hassold. Philip next attended Parkland Community College in Champaign where he earned an Associate of Science degree in preparation of attending Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA. He attended Palmer from 1999 to 2002 including an internship on Whidbey Island in Washington State and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in October of 2002. After graduation, Philip moved his family to Rockford, IL and was blessed with the birth of their 3rd child. Rockford is where he started 1st Step Chiropractic which later became known as Upper-Cervical Care Center of Rockford. He spent 3 years earning his certificate for Diplómate in Chiropractic Cranialcervical Junction. He enjoyed doing research. He practiced for 20 years and retired recently due to a severe health crisis which resulted in his seemingly too premature reunion with Jesus and loved ones who have gone before.

During the last 5 years, Philip had been working on studying more closely the Word of God and learning more about God’s great love for us. He studied Healing and Deliverance and had a vision and goal of going out into mission work after his retirement. His training in this area was a natural extension of the gifts that God gave him as a healer in his office. Philip’s heart was to share the message that God will never leave us or forsake us, that God is head over heels in love with us, that Jesus is our healer and sustainer. God loves to do it!
