Dr. Forrest H. Riordan III, 91, Rockford, passed away on July 10, 2020, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 13, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA. He was a veteran serving in the Army. Forrest received his BA degree, his Medical degree, served his internship and his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Stanford University in California. He was very proud of the fact that his entire education the medical field was completed at Stanford. Forrest married Barbara Inskeep on June 14, 1954, in Stanford, CA. He later married Patricia “Trish” Woods on September 15, 1976. She passed away on October 5, 2009. He then married Cynthia “Cindy” Penn on February 28, 2010. Forrest moved to Rockford in 1964, where he was an Orthopedic Surgeon at St. Anthony Hospital, now OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, for many years. After his retirement he was on the staff of Crusader Clinic, now called Crusader Community Health, for many years where he had an annual award in his honor named the Dr. Forrest Riordan III Distinguished Humanitarian Award for Medical Service He was also affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford. He was a member of the Winnebago County Medical Society serving as a past President and a member of the Osteoarthritis Foundation. Forrest enjoyed traveling to many countries around the world and was an avid reader, an enthusiastic patron of the arts, and a remarkable photographer. Forrest was always a snappy dresser. In an era where men wore navy, gray or brown, Forrest always dressed with a pop of color, often wearing a tweed or a plaid. He was one of a kind!
Survived by his wife Cindy; his son, F. Alex (Nancy Ross) Riordan and his daughter, Heather A. (her fiancé, Charles Desormeaux) Riordan, both of Chicago, and their mother, Barbara Riordan; and his step brother, Sam (Alexandria) Riordan. Predeceased by his son-in-law, David Bremer.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with military honors conducted at 5:00 P.M. Adhering to phase 4 guidelines, masks are required and social distancing must be followed. Private family services will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be may be made to the Crusader Community Health Foundation, 1200 W. State St. Rockford, IL 61102
