Born April 22, 1950 in Rockford, IL to Chester and Lillian (Remencius) Hanson. Graduate of East High School 1968 and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1972. Married the love of his life, Mary (Sbertoli) on August 31,1989 in Las Vegas. Worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 26 years retiring in 2014.Doug had a passion for many things. He loved fishing, gardening which he really had a green thumb for, wildlife, playing softball in 5 decades where he played on many teams and enjoyed being on the 1976 Forest Hills team that won the US Slow-Pitch, Class B World tournament, Craft Beer and telling stories about his days in Whitewater! His favorite place to go was Hollywood Beach, FL where we went every year with friends. Longtime member of the American Legion and Blackhawk Club. He is survived by his wife Mary, Godchild Ciel Rheingans, and a brother from another Mother, “Goose Rheingans” who did so much for us during Doug’s illness and whom I will be forever grateful, and many other close friends who have done things to help, that will always be our family. Predeceased by his father Chet and Mother Lillian. Special thanks to Dr.Mardini, UW Cancer center and Serenity Hospice for their gentle and loving care. Memorials to the family to be established at a later date. With every piece of my broken heart I will love and miss you forever Dougie.
