Dorothy R. Austin

Dorothy R. Austin, 88, Rockford, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center. Born on September 16, 1925 in Chicago, daughter of Frank and Catherine Beunski. Married Wendell Austin in January of 1947. Dorothy worked in retail, downtown Chicago before becoming a homemaker. She loved to read, especially historical biographies, and her home was full of books.

Survivors include her son Tim (Emily) Austin; granddaughter, Jennifer (Lee) Neibert; sisters, Rose Considine and Terry White. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Wendell; daughter Cathy Podeszwa; granddaughter, Wendy; brothers, Eugene, Les and John and sister, Betty. Dorothy's family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Presence Cor Mariae Center, Rosewood Care Center and Transitions Hospice for their compassionate, loving care.

Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 in Fitztgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. David Petty officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transitions Hospice or Presence Cor Mariae Center.
