Dorothy Marie Ackerman

Dorothy Marie Ackerman was born April 26, 1919 in Humphrey, NE. to John and Elizabeth Zimmerer and died on October 24, 2015 in Rockford. She is survived by her daughter, Marva Lynn Tarara; grandsons, Tony and Mario Tarara; sisters, Mildred “Mickey” Yerk of Belvidere, Marguerite Massara of Louisiana, Mary Seymour and sister-in-Law, Grace Zimmerer of Omaha, NE; brother, Eugene Zimmerer of NE and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Rosario S. Tarara; her parents; sisters, Clara Pfeifer, Verona Zimmerer, Mirella Goeken; brothers, Herman, Paul, Norbert, Elmer Zimmerer. In Florida, Dorothy volunteered at a Crisis Pregnancy Center and taught CCD, enjoyed oil painting, golf and beach walking. After returning to Rockford, she was a member of Holy Family Women’s Guild, Caritas, Catholic Women’s League and Provena St. Anne’s Auxiliary.
Funeral Mass Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4407 Highcrest Rd. Interment in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, October 28 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary Service to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continues on Thursday at church from 10 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the family to be given to her favorite charities in her honor.
