Dorothy “Dottie” A. (Bocker) Kast, 87, of Byron, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021. Dottie was born December 28, 1933, the daughter of Oscar and Glenola (Hayes) Schreck. She attended school at Mount Carroll and Shannon High School. Dottie worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid and Child Support. She married LaVerne Bocker on June 14, 1950, in Forreston, and he preceded her in death on September 12, 1967. She then married Fay Kast on October 28, 1989 in Kona, Hawaii, and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1994. Dottie was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was a former member of the Winnebago County Farm Bureau and a member of the Women of the Moose in Freeport.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Jill) Bocker of Winnebago, and Daniel (Laurie) Bocker of Rockford; son in-law, Dave (Carol) Martin of Arizona; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sisters, Marge (Jan) Nicol, June (Bill Schmelzer) Schreck; brothers, Larry Schreck and David (Dianna) Schreck; brother in-law, Terry (Vicki) Bocker, sister in-laws, Sharon Artman, Linda Earnest, and Darla Armstrong; step daughter in-laws, Linda Kast and Nancy Whitson; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, both husbands, daughter, Judith Martin, son, Stephen Bocker, sister, Eleanore Kehl, step-sons, Tom and Ron Kast, special friend, Walter Olk, father in-law and mother in-law, Harm and Kathryn Bocker, step mother in-law, Arlene Bocker, 5 brother in-laws and 1 sister in-law.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 11:00 am, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. A public visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
