Doris M. Lewis

Doris M. Lewis, 83, Rockford, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in her home.  Born April 9, 1925 in Knox County, IL, daughter of Rae and Naomi Olomon Heck.  Married Earl C. Lewis in Carroll, IA on September 4, 1940.  Rockford resident since 1992. Doris was completely devoted  to her children and grandchildren with her family always being her first priority. She also was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan.   Survivors include her daughter, Carol Dowds, Rockford; sons, John (Charnelle) Lewis, Sycamore and Kevin (Julie) Lewis, Roscoe; grandchildren, David Kummer, Sheri Miles, John Lewis, Andrea Lewis, Kristin Lewis and Jeff Lewis.  Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Lena Belle Brewer, Betty Van Fleet and several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her husband on October 30, 2003, parents, infant daughter and her sister, Jewel Howarter.    Visitation will be held from 3- 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
