Donald V. Sjoberg, 73, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 in St. Anne Center. Born August 7, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN; son of Herbert and Francis (Johnson) Sjoberg. He graduated in 1957 from Fargo Central High School in North Dakota. Don served in the Navy from 1958-1962 as an Electronics Technician. In Don’s early years he worked on the DEW Line during the Cold War. Married Penny Brown in 1979 in Rockford. He owned and operated Sjoberg Scale Co. He was a H.A.M. Radio operator W9KIA since his teenage years. Don loved his dogs, Truman and Bella and was a die hard Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife, Penny; sons, Mark (Tammy) Sjoberg, Eric “Ricky” (Cassandra) Sjoberg, David Sjoberg (Tricia Erwin) and Peter Sjoberg; daughter, Kirsten Sjoberg; grandchildren, Steven, Alexandria, T.J., Jessica, Carly, Haley, Max, Kenny, Ryan and Sydney; great-grandchildren, Riley and Leo. Predeceased by his parents and father-in-law, Sidney Brown. The family would like to give a special thank you to St. Anne Center, Heartland Hospice and to the 4th floor at SwedishAmerican Heart Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford with Reverend Dean Parker officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 24, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and will continue on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00am prior to service.
