Donald R. Williams, 78, Machesney Park, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 in his home under the loving care of his family. Born July 7, 1930 in Belvidere, son of Floyd Clell and Florence McEachran Williams. Graduated from West High School in 1950 where he excelled at track. He also attended the University of Illinois. Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Married Marjorie McIlhattin Day on July 17, 1971. Employed as an engineering supervisor at Ingersoll Milling Machine Company for 40 years. Don was an avid boater who loved the water and walks on the beach. He was a talented handyman who could fix anything and built many treasures for his family. He was the worlds best step-dad and all of his children benefitted from his abilities as their driving instructor. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; son, Michael (Deborah) Williams; daughters, Laura Williams, Diana (Chip) Swenson, Kim (Gerry) Bojarski and Jaymee (Randy) Robinson; grandchildren, Nicole Williams, Ryan (Kathy) Swenson, Jodi Allen, Melissa (Matt) Kreke, Kristy Pearson, Tanner Robinson and Conner Robinson; great-granddaughters, Alison and Leah Swenson and nieces, Kathy Finley and Sarah Hopkins. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Shirley Finley and nephew Jim Finley. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. Dr. Richard Wang officiating. Burial in Willow Creek Scottish Cemetery. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service.
