Donald R. Magnuson

Donald R. “Maggie” Magnuson, 72, of Rockford, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015. Born on November 8, 1942, in Rockford; to parents, Clarence and Hilma (Wendt) Magnuson. Donald married Charlotte Robinette in Pembrooke, Virginia; on July 10,1984. He worked at Mattison Machine, Barcol Overhead doors, and as a Pipefitter at Ingersol Machine, retiring in 2001. Donald was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army. After retirement he enjoyed wood carving and spending time with the members of the Blackhawk Carving Club. He was a pit crew member with John Knaus at the Rockford Speedway and liked watching NASCAR racing; enjoyed fishing of all types, and was a fantastic story teller.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; sons, Timothy Williams and Alan Magnuson; siblings, Dennis Magnuson, Bonnie (David) Krampota, and Connie Magnuson; carving buddy, Mike Petty; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents; and his aunt, Donna Holets.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108, with Pastor Dave Spooner officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the funeral home; and 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Magnuson Family. Donald will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
