Donald R. Leber, 84, of Rockford passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 in his home. Born June 7, 1929, in Rockford, the son of Edward and Hazel (Cornell) Leber. He graduated from St. Thomas High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On January 19, 1952, Donald married Colleen A. Donahue at St. Peters Church in Rockford. He worked in finance throughout his life at Rockford Drop Forge, H. O. Perlee Credit Union and Leber Services. Donald was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He loved movies and had a huge movie collection. He was also known for the Halloween Hot Dog House, providing trick-or-treaters with dinner on Halloween for 42 years.
Survived by his wife, Colleen; children, Kathleen Harms, David Leber, Karen (Bruce) Nelson, Laura (Michael) Harkness, Dan Leber and Chad Leber; grandchildren, Kara (Chris) Birnbaum, Kevin Harms, Laren Harms, Brett (Jennifer Jacky) Nelson, Brook (Scott) Stout, Sarah Harkness, Trevor Harkness, Donny Blake Harkness and Paige Leber and great-grandchildren, Garren Nelson, Kahlee Birnbaum, Justen Birnbaum and Easton Streed Harkness. Predeceased by his son, Larry Leber.
Memorial mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poor Clares Corpus Christi Monastery, 2111 S. Main Street, Rockford, IL 61102.
