Donald E. “Don” Crews, 81, Rockford, passed away at home on Friday, December 18, 2015. He was born June 12, 1934, in Chrisney, IN, the son of Louis and Helen (Schriefer) Crews. Don graduated from Boonville High School, Class of 1953. Don served in the Naval Reserves. He was a graduate of Lane Technical Institute in Evansville, IN and attended the University of Evansville. Don married Donna Charlton on August 15, 1953. He worked in product design at Sundstrand Aerospace for 28 years retiring in 1996. Don was an active member of Bethesda Covenant Church serving in many areas including the Trustee board, the annual Alley Walk, the financial team and in the Sunday adult class. He enjoyed all sports, was an avid golfer, a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed Thursday morning breakfast with his Sundstrand buddies. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, at their summer home at Lake Redstone, WI.
Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Donna; his children, Dirk (Deb) Crews of Madison, WI, Daniel “Dan” (Carole) Crews of Roscoe, Delinda (Rob) Grindle and Diane (Kevin) Polky, all of Rockford; his grandchildren, Lydia (Alex) Nieuwenhuis, Erica (Levi) Riggs, Savanah Crews, Kelsey and Drake Grindle, Kalab and Cierra Polky; his sisters, Marilyn (Ted) Kaufman of Liberty IN and Mary (Kenny) Morris of Boonville, IN; his sister-in-law, Melba Wilson of Boonville, IN; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers-in-law.
Memorial service will be held noon on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St., Rockford, with Reverend David Lindfors officiating. Visitation from 10 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church in Don’s name.
