Donald Duke Carlyle, 83, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in his home. He was born June 2, 1929 in Rockford; son of Eugene and Jennie (Kulpa) Carlyle. Don attended East High School. Don was known for his life long love of cars. He began his career as a mechanic at JL Clark. It was here he met his wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Johnson) Carlyle. Together they started their own successful automotive business, Carlyle Auto Service. Don continued to operate it for over sixty years. Dons concern and love for his family was always apparent in his ever abundant generosity. He will be missed. A very social man, Don enjoyed the camaraderie of friends at local Rockford Clubs. He was a member of Lombardi, St. Ambrogio Society and the LLL Club. He is survived by his daughter, Christine (Tony) Myers of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Cale Barrick of Cherry Valley, Dr. Kelsey (Dr. Drew Shinabarger) Barrick of Columbus, OH and Chad (Kristen Jones) Barrick of Loves Park; sister, Pat (Joe) Caronna of Durand; sisterinlaw, Lillian Carlyle of Michigan; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of very good friends.Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Center for Cancer Care or a charity of your choice.
