Donald D. Ruenger

Donald D. Ruenger, 89, of Rockford, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born October 3, 1932, in Portage, WI the son of Marguerite (Radant) and Roy R. Ruenger. After attending East High School, Don proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Sally Stemwedel on September 11, 1954. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. Don was a letter carrier in Rockford for over 41 years, retiring in 1995. He was a charter member and usher at St. Bernadette Catholic Church where he also helped maintain the lawn for many years. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed spending time working in his yard. Don was an accomplished dancer and especially enjoyed square dancing. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Sally; children Ann (Mark) Styczynski, Jeanne (Richard) Banducci, Mary Lynn (John) Basile and Patrick (Leigh) Ruenger; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sister, Diane Gettle. Don is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duane Ruenger.

Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11:00 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Rockford, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of Mass at the church.
