Dolores A. Day, 95, of Rockford died Friday, October 30, 2015 in her home. Born May 4, 1920 in Chicago, the daughter of Robert J. and Martha J. (Roth) Thornton. Attended Marengo High School and later married her loving husband F. Mark Day on September 11, 1946 in Rockford at the Cathedral of St. Peter. Dolores worked for many years doing clerical work for a medical supply company until her retirement. She loved to travel and had visited many countries and enjoyed to paint. She was a kind and caring person who cherished family and friends, she will be missed dearly by all. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to VNA Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care these past months.
Survivors include her children; Mark C.; Mary Ann, Gary, Peggy and Chuck (Lori); grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Tasmania, Australia, Monica (Adam) Boebel of Rockford and Emily Day of Chicago; great grandchildren, Maddox and Claudia of Tasmania, Australia; sister, Kathleen (Larry) Swenson and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, F. Mark Day on October 24, 2014; son, Robert Day; brother, Robert Thornton; sister-in-law, Edith Thornton and her parents, Robert and Martha.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Interment Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation Monday, November 2, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave and continues on Tuesday at the funeral home from 8:45-9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to American Cancer Society.
