Dixie L. Lindsey

Rockford

Dixie Lee Lindsey, age 91, passed away on July 23, 2024 at Javon Bea Hospital.

Dixie was born near Byron, Illinois on August 19, 1932 to Reno and Anna Whetsel. She graduated from Byron High School. She attended Rockford Memorial School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse and she worked at the Rockford Clinic for 23 years.

She married Elmer Richard Lindsey (Dick) of Oregon, Illinois on September 12, 1954. They lived in Indiana while Dick attended Purdue University. After graduation, they returned to Rockford, IL.

Dixie was a member of the Rockford Jaycees, PEO, TTT, Third Presbyterian Church, and the Alumni Association of Rockford Memorial Hospital Nursing Program. She and Dick remained active with their group of friends fondly called “Card Club.” This group got together monthly for over 60 years to eat, play cards, travel, share stories and laugh.

Her hobbies were embroidery, reading, going to flea markets and estate sales, baking and gardening. 

Dick and Dixie took numerous trips over the years, including destinations in the US, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, Scotland, Israel, Egypt, Canadian Rockies and Mexico, with one of the favorites being a 50th Anniversary cruise to Alaska with family.

Dick and Dixie moved to TLC Living Community, Machesney Park, IL in 2022.

Dixie is survived by her sister Jeanne McDanel, daughters Carol (Wayne) Johnson, Sue Lindsey, Jeanne

(Fred) Fauerbach, as well as four grandchildren, Lindsey Bruntz, Melissa Edson, Michael Fauerbach, and Lindsey Wall, eight great-grandchildren, Abby Edson, Bailey Bruntz, Owen Fauerbach, Riley Edson, Madison Wall, Evie Fauerbach, Wesley Fauerbach, Payton Bruntz, as well as one great grandchild expected in January 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Whetsel and sister Virginia Whetsel.

A Visitation at 10:00 am and a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Third Presbyterian Church in Rockford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Ave, Rockford, IL, 61103 or to TLC Living Community, 508 Roosevelt Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
