Dennis L. Mullins

Dennis L. Mullins, 83, of Rockford went to heaven on December 31, 2020.

Dennis was born June 21, 1937 in Chicago to Harley W. and Vera Hanson Mullins.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Wendy (William) Kessenich; son Scott (Laura) Mullins; step-daughters Tammy (Peter) Newbery, and Trish (Joel) Hefel; sister Carol Mallquist; his 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Earlynn, he was predeceased by his grandson Brad.

He graduated from Rockford East High School in 1955, Northwestern University in 1959, and received an MBA degree from University of Wisconsin in 1966.

As a professional, Dennis was a computer industry pioneer and started writing software programming for mainframes in 1964. While managing the marketing research department at Oster Corporation in Milwaukee, he developed software as an independent contractor, and was on the faculty with University of Wisconsin. Dennis was also the founder of Analytical Computer Systems Corporation. After selling his company he continued with independent marketing and forecasting work until his retirement in 1990.

Dennis was proud to serve his county in the U.S. Air Force. He was also a member of American Marketing Association (past director), American Statistical Association, Rotary Clubs of Milwaukee North Shore (past president and director), Machesney Park and Loves Park, IL, and Sanibel, FL. He also volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels along with other community services.

Dennis married Earlynn Shaw in 1985 and was a devoted husband for 35 years. They enjoyed travel, snow-birding in Florida, and carrying out a legacy of education for their grandchildren.

As a grandfather Dennis shared his fondness for National Parks. Each grandchild enjoyed a visit to an American geographical wonder with him and Earlynn.

A memorial service will be planned in a few months. In lieu of flowers, Dennis requested contributions to American Red Cross, 727 N. Church St. Rockford, IL 61103.
