Delores Elizabeth (Schuring) Huene, beloved mother and best friend.
Delores Elizabeth (Schuring) Huene, 92, passed away on July 11, 2023, peacefully in her home. She was born September 5, 1930, in Andover, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Mack) Schuring. She moved to Rockford with her mother and stepfather in later years where she resided the rest of her life. She never knew her biological father, as he died when she was 2 years old. She married Ernest H. Huene on January 7, 1950, and together they were married almost 50 years. She was employed at Amerock and retired after 32 years in the assembly department. My mother was strong, wise, caring, and a good listener. She had a good outlook on life. If there was hardship, she would say “that’s life” and continue on. She was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years, and her team won a trophy. She was a big fan of country music, Conway Twitty, and concerts with her daughters. She loved animals and keeping her flower gardens free of weeds during the summertime.
She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Debra Huene; pets, Punpkin and Archie, both of them will deeply miss her; Pablo Hernandez, who she enjoyed taking care of him since 2 ½ years old. Both of them enjoyed cookies as they were known as the “Cookie Monsters” He continued to visit her through his teens and adult years and said “a very good grandma”. She is predeceased by her husband, Ernest H. Huene; daughter, Gail Marie Huene; father, John Schuring; mother, Kathryn M. (Schuring) Cole; and stepfather, Lemon J. Cole; and sisters, Leola (Don) Andrews, Maxine (Robert) Schneider.
My heartfelt thank you to my caregivers Tammy and Pablo. They continued to stand by me at this most difficult time. Dr. Jose Salazar and all his staff, ProMedica Hospice, for the excellent care given to my mother. Thank you for your support and encouragement. To my mother, I will hold you in my heart forever and I loved every conversation together. I will do what you always told me “be strong and carry on”
Funeral services will be private family only. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Please share memories and condolences online.
