Dean O. McCormick, 83, Rockford, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2015, comforted by the love of his family. Born in Rio, Wisconsin, on July 18, 1932, the son of Owen and Florence (Gorman) McCormick. He married Helen L. Smith on May 7, 1955, in Pardeeville, Wisconsin. Dean most recently was employed through District 205, Rockford board of education, until his retirement in 2011. Dean treasured the years he spent coaching baseball. He loved fishing, all sports and was an avid Packer fan. Dean was a man of strong convictions and loved his family, his beloved dog, Tess, and above all, God.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Julia) McCormick, David (Peg Toso) McCormick, Richard (Bernadette) McCormick, Peter (Debbie) McCormick; his daughters, Jeanne (Michael) Matus, and Lisa Thomas; his grandchildren, Amy A. McCormick, Tania (Kyle) Weber, Lindsey (Derek) Schnabel, Tom (Mary Ann) Matus, Jenna (Eric) Schachte, Conor, Owen, Kellen,and Brennan McCormick, Dominic Toso, Ryan and Abby McCormick; his great-grandchildren, Miabella, Charlotte, and Olivia Matus, Mallory Schachte, Cody Schnabel, and Audie Weber; and his special cousin, Patricia Huggett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Florence McCormick; his wife, Helen McCormick; his son Tom McCormick; his special aunts, Alice and Francis Gorman; his son in-law, Amos Thomas; his granddaughter, Danielle McCormick, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., with the Rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 318 S. Main St, Pardeeville, Wisconsin, with a visitation from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Inurnment Rocky Run Catholic Cemetery on Gorman Road in Rio, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
