David R. Johns

David R. Johns, 73, of Rockford, died in the arms of his loving wife at home on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. He was born on March 23, 1941 in Rockford the son of George H. and DeEtte (Folsom) Johns. Was a graduate of West High School and attended classes at U of I for agriculture. David married his bride, Sandra, on January 7, 1967 at Court Street United Methodist Church. David was dedicated farmer and owner of Maple Lawn Farms, a member of the Farm Service Board and the Farm Bureau Board. He loved to play poker on Wednesday with friends, fish and spend time with his family. He was a wonderful man and a great farmer who will be missed dearly by all. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Visiting Nurses Association, especially Nora.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; sons, David M. Johns of Oregon, WI; Matthew A. (Carie) Johns of Beloit, WI and Nicholas G. (Kaci) Johns of Rockford; granddaughters, Lulu and Bea Champeny-Johns, Isabella and Taylor Johns and brother, Daniel Johns of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Drewer Johns and sisters, Shirley Arne, Phyllis Arne and Marcia Clark.
Memorial service on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Ave. with Pastor Douglas Williams officiating. Interment will be held privately at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Visiting Nurses Association. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
