David G. Hawk

David G. (“Dave”) Hawk, 74, of Rockford, IL, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at Wesley Willows in Rockford. Born in Rockford, IL to parents Luther Marvin and Barbara Jean (Crumb) Hawk. Dave graduated from Rockford East High School in 1957, and was a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Pharmacy in 1961. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity whose brothers have remained some of his closest friends. Shortly after graduating from Wisconsin, he began a distinguished career as a pharmacist, most of his career as co-owner of Sentry Drug, Inc. in Rockford. He cared for his many customers with great compassion and was dedicated to his profession. He was active in many professional organizations, and was the recipient of many career achievement awards and recognitions.
He married his loving wife Elizabeth Ann (“Liz”) Brown on May 1, 1965 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rockford. Dave was a dedicated family man that loved spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his children and loved to cheer them on in their various activities. He treasured travel to cities to see close friends, lake adventures for fishing and boating, and streaks of luck at the blackjack tables. Dave was an avid life-long sports fan, some of his favorite moments included cheering on his beloved Badgers, Cubs, and Bears.
Survivors include daughter Kathryn M. (Mark) Bradrick of Raleigh, NC; son Steven D. (Scott Vandenberg) Hawk of Oak Creek, WI; sister Susan (Hawk) Hehir of Rockford, IL; sister-in-law Eileen Hawk of Lodi, WI; sister-in-law Barbara (James) Mead of River Forest, IL; nephews Thomas Dace, Michael Hawk, Eric Hawk, and Sean Hehir; niece Jean Sprague; 5 great nephews; and 3 great nieces. Dave is predeceased by parents Luther and Barbara, his wife Liz, and brother Robert P. Hawk.
Funeral service Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Randy Young officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 4-7 in the funeral home and continues on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
