Darrel D. Danekas, Jr., 56, of Rockford died July 3, 2017 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born August 18, 1960 the son of Darrel D. and Janice (Cole) Danekas, Sr., graduated from Dixon High School, and married his loving wife of 19 years, Mary Park. Darrel worked as a machinist for 30 years until he retired in 2008 from Specialty Screw. He was a true outdoorsman and an avid fisherman. He was also a faithful member of Brooke Road United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and ran the sound board for a few years. Darrel was very fond of his granddaughters and they loved their “Doe” greatly. He was a kind and caring man with a heart of gold and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. A special thank you to OSF NTICU for all of their wonderful and compassionate care these past days and to Dr. Alexander.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his fur babies, Willy, Doodles, Stuart and Tannis; brothers, Craig (Sue) Danekas, Scott (Deb) Danekas, and Michael Danekas; sisters, Brenda (Tim) Quaco, Janine (Scott) Huffman, and Angie (Larry) Wallace; granddaughters, Samantha and Amanda; several nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. with a memorial service to follow on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials to go to the family. Express online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com
