Daniel N. Burd

Daniel N. Burd, 74, of Rockford, IL, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 29, 2022, due to complications of agent orange.

Dan was born in Rockford on February 19, 1948, son of Raymond and Janet (Compton) Burd. He graduated from East High School, Class of 1966 and then went on to earn his Associate and Master Plumbing Degree from the U.A. Local 23. Dan proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy as a Seabee during Vietnam. He worked as a commercial plumber for Nelson Carlson Mechanical for 42 years. Dan married Lori Rotolo on February 26, 1982. He was a longtime member of St. Rita Catholic Church where he was very involved in numerous organizations including the Catholics Returning Home program, Homebound Ministry, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and member of St. Joseph the Worker Ministry. Dan was most recently the mess cook for the Smoke Brothers at the LZ Peace Memorial. He enjoyed reading, cooking for Veterans and spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to honor Dan’s memory include his wife, Lori Burd; children, Todd Burd and Tracy (Timothy) Bare; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and special grandson, Michael; sister, Kathy (Roger) Lundholm; sister-in-law, Donna Hurd and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Patricia (Lee) Hassel, Myrle (John) Knight, Jim Hurd, Walter, Steven, James and Claudette Pettit.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a Rosary recited at 6:00 pm located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive Rockford, IL 61109 with visitation from 10:00 am until time of Mass. Private burial will conclude in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dan’s name to OSF Home Health & Hospice of Rockford.
