Dan Wessner

January 27, 1947 — August 26, 2016

Dan Wessner, 69, of South Beloit passed away Friday, August 26, 2016. Born in Weiner, Arkansas and the son of Clifton and Neva Wessner, Dan was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Vietnam. He married Sherry Smith in 1973. Dan
worked as a small aircraft and helicopter pilot and then for Warner Lambert for 25 years, retiring in 2008.

Dan spent much of his free time in his shop rebuilding airplanes, tractors, helicopters, and working on his daughter’s school projects and later building furniture for her many cross-country moves. He never saw a machine he couldn’t fix or a piece of furniture that he couldn’t replicate. He loved flying airplanes, skeet shooting, deep-sea fishing, and reading westerns. He was exceptionally generous with a big heart and loved spending time with his brother, Tom, and his many friends. He was a family man who would do anything for his wife, daughter, and four sisters. He had a goofy sense of humor and a love of puns. His laughter, love, and ridiculous jokes will be remembered and cherished by those who loved him. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter, Jennifer; brother, Tom (Phyllis) Wessner; sisters, Lamar (John) Purington, Barbara Jones and Patricia (Dennis) Golden; brothers-in-law, Larry Smith and Mike Smith; sister-in- law, Sue Smith, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son, Scot Wessner, parents, Clifton and Neva Wessner, sister, Donna Graves, brother-in- law Don Jones, mother-in-law Anna Mae Smith and father-in-law Earl Smith.

Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Fitzgerald
