D. L. Garrett

D L Garrett 70 of Rockford passed away Monday December 19, 2011 He was born February 15, 1941 in Durant, Mississippi. The son of Walter and Beatrice Garrett. He married Ruth Almond in Las Vegas, NV in October of 1970.DL graduated from Beloit Memorial high School, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs, and he then joined the Navy and after the Navy went to work for Illinois Bell. DL then went and worked for the Winnebago County Sheriff'¢s Department where he was a detective. He retired in 2009 after 42 years. Member of Rockford First. Survivors include his wife Ruth, three children, Tracy, Jeffrey and Brandon all of Rockford and precious grandson Jeffrey. Brother, Harold. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Samuel Lee. Services at 11am Friday December 23, 2011 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 North Rockton Ave. with Pastor Bob Taylor of Rockford First, officiating. Burial in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit.Visitation at the funeral home from 5pm until 8pm Thursday December 22. Visitation also from 10am until time of service Friday in the funeral home.
