Clara M. Gifford, 90, of Rockford, passed away in her home on October 9, 2018. Born February 16, 1928 in Thorp, WI, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Szatalowicz. Married Wayne Gifford on June 30, 1951 in Thorp, WI. Clare had a lifelong career in the “travel biz”, was very involved in her church (St. Rita’s), and volunteered in the community, in particular for the Poor Clares and Rockford Rescue Mission. Clare was an avid sports fan rooting on the Cubs, Bears and numerous basketball teams, especially during March Madness. She also loved playing cards . . . pinochle, rummy, and even conquered solitaire every night before bed.
Survivors include daughter, Cathy (Ron Munvez) Gifford; son, Tom (Carol) Gifford; grandchildren, Drew, Cole (Renata), Matthew and Erin; brother, F.T. Satalowich; daughter-in-law, Tanya; many dear nieces, nephews and “adopted” family members. Predeceased by parents, husband, Wayne; son, Stewart, a brother and two sisters.
The family would like to give special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice for all their sensitive care and support.
Clare was extremely grateful for the time spent with family and close friends. They truly provided her a wonderful life. EVERYBODY POLKA!
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Rita Catholic Church. Visitation from 12:30 p.m. until time of Mass. A private burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
