Roscoe- Cindy L. Dilts, 67, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 in her home in Roscoe with loved ones at her side after a courageous two year battle with brain cancer. Born Sep. 8, 1947 in Monongahela, PA to John and Janet (Mitchell) Gallatin. She graduated from Northern Burlington County (NJ) High School in 1965. She received her Registered Nursing Diploma from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and subsequently received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1978. She proudly served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force Nursing Corps at Fairchild AFB Regional Hospital from 1970-72, where she met her husband Bill. She and Bill were married on April 29, 1972 in Spokane, WA. In her 40 year nursing career, Cindy worked in multiple hospital settings including Intensive and Coronary Care Units, medical Units, Emergency Departments and Renal Dialysis Units. She also taught Surgery for the former Diploma Nursing Programs at both Rockford Memorial Hospital and St. Anthony medical Center. Cindy was also a proud member of the DAR, Daughter’s of the American Revolution. The most enjoyable and rewarding part of her career was the 13 years she spent serving as a School Nurse for Machensey park and Marquette Elementary Schools in the Harlem School District. Cindy was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, Janet Gallatin, brother, Ernest D. Gallatin of Virginia Beach, VA; loving husband, Bill and her sons, Scott (Elisabeth Cline) Dilts and Devin Dilts. She was most proud of her two wonderful sons. Cindy will be buried in a private family ceremony in Oswego, NY. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at which time Cindy’s service to the US Air Force will be recognized with Military Honors with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Development Foundation at Rockford Health System for use in the neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
