Christopher Gyorkos

Christopher Gyorkos, 56, Rockford died Monday, December 30, 2013 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born May 10, 1957 in Decatur, son of Frank and Mercedes (Casteel) Gyorkos. Graduated from West High School in 1976 and Rock Valley College. Married Patricia A. Gresenz at St. Patrick Church in Rockford on August 24, 1985. Chris had a long, successful career in Manufacturing Management. He presently was the assistant swim coach at Guilford High School where he was always a great confidence builder. He had always enjoyed coaching his own children and was a swim official with IHSA. Chris was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. He was also a talented handyman who was a classic "do it yourselfer", always willing to help others. His love of animals took him to Noah's Ark as a former volunteer.

Survivors include his wife, Patti; son, Taylor Gyorkos; daughter, Alyssa Gyorkos; siblings, Mike (Marsha) Gyorkos, Kay (Jerry) Kolls, Becky (Tim) Mulford, Patty Gyorkos Marinelli, Frank (Margaret) Gyorkos, Anne Gyorkos Kaplan and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Fran Heisler. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and the entire staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for the exceptional care that was extended to Chris and his family.

A funeral service to celebrate Chris's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
