Christine I. Bruce

Christine I. Bruce, 91, passed away on January 19, 2024. Born in Ward, West Virginia on January 23, 1932, daughter to Cebert and Laura (Asbury) McCormick. She graduated from East Bank High School in West Virginia and attended Charleston Business College. She wed William T. Bruce in 1949. Christine moved to Rockford at the beginning of her working career and spent over 20 years working for National Lock as an assembly punch press machine operator. She also spent time working for Triple AAA Chicago Motor Club before retiring from 10 years of customer service at Kohl’s. She was a member at Maywood Evangelical Free Church, an avid Cub’s fan, and enjoyed watching nature and the birds.

She is survived by her children Greg (Debbie) Bruce, Linda Bruce, and her son-in-law John Jarrett; her grandchildren Ryan (Nicole) Bruce, Laura Bruce, Christy (Tom) Hanlin, John Jarrett, Bill (Kelly) Jarrett and a few grandpuppies; great grandchildren Henry, Colton, Jayla, Bentley Bruce, Lindsay and Joseph Hanlin, John Alexander Jarrett, Riley, and Coen Jarrett; her brother Shelton (Margaret) McCormick and several nieces and nephews. She has been reunited in Heaven with her husband Bill; her daughters Rose and Donna; her parents and her four sisters.

The family would like to thank the special souls at Northern Illinois Hospice for helping during her final days.

A time to gather and honor Christine’s life will take place on Sunday, January 28th, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark or to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
