Chester William Jenkins

Chester W. Jenkins 93 of Rockford passed away Saturday November 14, 2015 in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. He was born September 10, 1922 in Freeport, the son of Alton and Elizabeth Jenkins. He was in the Army during WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He married Dorothy Lombardo in St. Anthony Church on December 26, 1948. Chester worked at Roper Whitney for over 42 years. Member of St. Bernadette Church, the L.L.L. Club and the Blackhawk Athletic Club. He loved golf and was an avid bowler, bowling in many ABC tournaments and various leagues.
Survivors include his beloved wife Dorothy with whom he celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage. Two children, Charles (Pamela) Jenkins of Rockford and Joyce (Frank) Ripley of Machesney Park. Four grandchildren, Nina (James) Olson of Milwaukee, Riley (Ashley) Jenkins of Roscoe, Andrea Ripley of Loves Park and Barbara Ripley of Loves Park. Great grandchildren, James Leo, Charles, Benjamin, Aria, Addison and Cashus. Sister-in-law, Val Jenkins of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Sister, Pearl Try. Two brothers, Earl and Dale Jenkins.
Funeral Mass at 10am Thursday November 19, 2015 in St Bernadette Catholic Church with entombment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 9am until 9:45 Thursday in the church. Arrangements completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home Riverside Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to GiGi’s Playhouse (Rockford) in honor of his great granddaughter Aria.
