Chester "Chet" Hanson

Chester A. "Chet" Hanson, 86, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2013, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was born November 16, 1927, in Chicago, the son of Oscar and Tillie Hanson. Chet enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 years old and was stationed in Korea. He married Lillian Remencius on April 23, 1949, in Rockford. Chet worked in the construction field starting as an iron worker and then became a cement mason working with Gus G. Larson and Sons, later to become Larson and Wallden, until he retired in 1989. He loved fishing and family vacations to Blackduck, MN and to Hayward, WI. Chet was a diehard fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs and enjoyed the annual company father-son trips to see the Cubs. He was a long time member of the Harmony Club. Chet was a loving, easy going, gentle man who worked hard to provide for his family and died with the same dignity in which he lived his life. To know him was to love him and he will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We love you!
Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lillian; his son, Douglas (Mary) and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Olle and Irving; his sisters, Elizabeth and Florence. The family would like to thank the doctors, all the wonderful nurses in the CCU that took such great care of Chet, his nurses on the 7th floor, and Cathy in Palliative care that helped us carry out his final wishes. Your kindness was greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be private with a Celebration of Life gathering on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Hoffman House, 7550 E. State St. from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Come and share a story, have a drink and celebrate this wonderful man with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
