Cheryl Ann Zwanzig, 61, of Rockford passed away surrounded by her family at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. She was born on August 7, 1956 in Marquette, MI, the daughter of Warren and Lorraine (Nelson) Contois. She worked for the Rockford Housing Authority as a Case Manager. Cheryl was a devoted member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she served as an usher and member of the altar guild. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and Lyran Ladies Auxiliary. She had a beautiful singing voice and was an exceptional seamstress. Cheryl was a selfless woman with a gentle demeanor and caring nature. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Colin Zwanzig and Rose (Chris) Behrensmeyer; her “adopted” children, Andrew Wolfe and Laura Diveley; her grandchildren, A.J. and Jameson; her sisters, Patti (Jeff) Aurentz and Kristine Larscheid; dear friend Lyn Tubbesing and family; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her son, Ian, sister, Elizabeth Contois and her parents.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4700 Augustana Drive, Rockford. Service led by Pastor Jill Flynn. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Celebration of Life at Lyran Society, 1115 4th Ave at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation appreciated. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
