Charles Robert Streit

Charles Robert Streit, 86, passed away after a brief illness on Jan 12, 2011. Born Dec. 29, 1924 in Rockford; the son of Charles and Birdena Streit. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He then went to work for Rockford Screw Products for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. Charles was an avid bowler, golfer and card player who enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. Survivors include his son, Tim (Diane ) Knipprath; daughters, Cherie (Joe) Goldsworthy, Cathy (Rex) Mullendore, Cindy (Mike) Eash and Colleen (Glenn) Vandergriff; grandchildren, Venus, Tiffany, Eric, David, Daniel, Diana, Lindsay, Stephen, Noehmi, Sandra, Lee, Melissa, Michelle, Michael, Kyle, Natasha and Tonica; 27 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren; brothers, Dick (Jean), Tom and Fred (Anne sister-in-law, Alice and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; sons, Mark and Roger; brother, Jim; sister, Doris Mae and sister-in-law, Karlene.Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Visitation on Sunday, Jan. 16 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave. from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to be recited at 7:00pm. Visitation continues on Monday at St. Bernadette in the parish hall from 9:00 a.m. until time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. Internment will be held on Tuesday, Jan 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary/St. James Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial to the family.
